My horses were at Corneiia and Jacob Fletcher’s farm in Ocala, and riding around such talent each day makes you better! I stayed with Barton, Susan and Charlotte Merle-Smith at their beautiful Marnick Farm, which is close to the Fletchers.
Coming home to Virginia toward the end of March is always great because we get back on the hills. I ended up running Intermediate with Storm at Morven, so I got to practice all the things I learned over the winter. It was certainly not perfect but was still great. I learned that next year, Morven is going to run an Advanced, which is great.
Tate has had a hard time moving up to Preliminary because he’s so careful and has been suffering from Lyme disease, which has made him quite backward. I didn’t realize how much it was affecting him, but hopefully he’s on the mend. I plan to do some more Modifieds and then move him back up this summer.
I’m on the way to Kentucky so Storm and I can practice all the things we’ve been working on. In some ways, we just survived the 4-star level and now I feel like we can start to improve at the level.
