Jan’s days are filled with riding her own competition
horses, schooling horses in for training or sale and
coaching riders at all levels, both at the farm and away at
events. She competes most weekends and travels nationally to
teach at clinics.
Jan is 40 years old, and has been riding and eventing for
over 30 years. She started out taking lessons in Chicago,
joined the local Pony Club, started competing on her first
pony, Lorbus, and represented Area IX as a young rider at
the 1985 NAYRC. As a sixteen-year-old, Jan went east to work
and train with Bruce Davidson, and eventually with Ralph
Hill, David and Karen O’Connor, Phillip Dutton, Mark
Phillips, Betsy Steiner, Robert Dover and Laura Kraut.
Consistently a top-ranked U.S. Event rider, she has a
well-deserved reputation for identifying and producing
world-class event horses.
Jan is also quite active in the United States Eventing
Association organization as co-chair of the Young Rider
committee, has coached the Area IX Young Rider Championship
teams for many years and has presented at numerous USEA
year-end conventions. In addition, she is a Level IV ICP (USEA's
Instructor Certification Program) instructor, qualified to
teach through the Advanced three-star level.
Jan also serves on the United States Equestrian Federation's
Eventing Technical Committee.
When she isn’t training, teaching or competing, Jan relaxes
by running, hiking, skiing, playing volleyball, and spending
time with her dog, Echo.
