As far as the horses go, things are ticking over. I gave Volcan a couple easy weeks and showed in the meter-20s at Upperville. He was double clear both days and jumped the best and most consistent he has yet. I’m finally able to ride him in the snaffle, though he was a bit fresh on Wednesday not having shown for a while. Thursday he settled right in. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this horse! The more he’s figured out his own jumping style the easier it is for me to ride him and it’s a blast. I plan to do a few events with him—Maryland, Jersey, Bromont and possibly Plantation—before Fair Hill in the fall. I would think with the Pan Ams next year at the 2-star level, Volcan would be a contender. I think he’ll be ready for a 3-star next spring.
Rem is hacking and getting ready to start trotting so that’s exciting, and the three young mares—Jolie, Kortina and Nora—are all going well. JR is starting to hack out so he can start into his new job by this fall, whatever that’s going to be. I’m sure he’ll let us know!
